In-ground pool

As the name suggests, in-ground pools are installed below the ground level. These are more like a permanent type of pools. Once you install these, they remain for a longer period of time. So this type is mainly preferred by the owners who live in a warmer climate. Since warmer climates boost up the demand of pool, so people especially house owner build in-ground pools to add value to their house as well.

There are varieties in in-ground pool size and design. If you take good care of these pools, they can last you long enough to forget when you got it!

Above ground pool

There is another type of pool, named as above ground pool. These are installed above the ground. These are non-permanent hence easier to get rid of. This provides great means of mobility. So if you are living in a mixed climate or don’t own a permanent house, then this one if for you.

You can build them on the yard within a few weeks or so. So when the weather is not warm or you have to move out, you can uninstall this above ground pool. You can think of it as a portable mood of swimming pools.

Both the in-ground and above ground pools have their own pros and cons. Let’s dive into the details.

Types of an in-ground pool

In-ground pools come in three different types depending on the material.

These concrete in-ground pools will give you freedom of full customization since they are made from scratch. You can design the whole look of the pool. The builder will make the pool as you asked but this is the most expensive in-ground pool type. The more complex the design the more money and installation time you will need. But once done you can enjoy the quality pool for the longest period of time with proper maintenance.

These are called vinyl pool because of the vinyl liner. This is also customizable and cheap to install. But the main downside is they need quite a repair sessions once in a while.

If you don’t want to bother with the whole design task, then this one's for you. These fiberglass pools come in pre designed shapes. So you can install them anytime you want.

Types of above ground pool

Depending on the materials the above ground pools are made of vinyl, metal, and aluminum. But since these are factory made so you don’t get many options to choose from when it comes to the size. Circle and rectangle are pretty much the size options you get.

When it comes to an in-ground pool you can design each corner of the pool. So you can have the pool in any size and shape you want.

But in the case of the above ground pools, they come in predesigned shape and size. So you don’t get many options to choose from. Above pools are generally 10*20, 15*30 or 20*40 feet.

But you need to add deck and pool steps which will need more space beside the main pool itself. Design and install the pools keeping this in mind.

When it comes to the longevity an in-ground pool will last you around 2 year in case of a fiberglass pool, 6-11 approximately in case of a vinyl pool and on average 9-13 years with concrete pools with proper maintenance.

On the other hand, an above ground pool offers a lifespan of on average 5-9 years. But since these are not permanent you can have a mobility option with these. This will come handy if you have to move out or if you live in a changing weather climate.

In-ground pools are on the expensive side compared to the above ground pools.

In-ground pools will cost you $30k-70k depending on the design. And you have to think of the maintenance cost as well.

On the contrary, an above ground pool will cost you around $4k-12k in total. Since these aren’t permanent, so you don’t have to bother about the maintenance that often since you can uninstall them whenever you don’t need them for a long time.

Installation period:

Installation period is much longer with the in-ground pool. The more complex the design the longer it will take. You will need a renowned company to install this at the home.

But installation isn’t that hassle with the above ground pool. This will take a few weeks to install it at your home.

Now adding a pool in the house can definitely give your house more aesthetic mean. On this point, an in-ground pool is definitely the winner although you can make your above ground pool an aesthetic one with proper planning. Try adding deck and pool step to make it look even more expensive.

Taking proper safety measures to prevent any accidents on the poolside is also important. Many companies provide these safety types of equipment with pool installment contract.

Final words:

Both the in-ground and above ground pool has its own advantages and disadvantages. So which one you should go for depends on your taste, budget, preference, and location. If you want something more aesthetic and permanent then go for the in-ground pools.

They are the best way to enjoy the warm weather at home. On the other hand, if you are a person who moves quite often and lives in a diverse climate then above ground pool can be a lifesaver for you. Summer doesn't last more than 3-4 months in the mixed climate.

So you can enjoy the summer and uninstall the above ground pool when summer ends. But keep in mind both the pools will need proper maintenance. So make the decision and enjoy the nature with your favorite drinks in the pool at your own home.
